The share of RES in Kazakhstan's energy balance exceeded 6 percent
In Kazakhstan, the share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources (RES) exceeded 6% by the end of 2024, reaching 6.43%. This is almost double the figure for 2020, when the share of RES was only 3%. The growth demonstrates the systematic advancement of government programmes to develop the «green economy».
There has been a steady positive dynamic in the country over the past five years:
- in 2021 - 3.69%,
- in 2022 - 4.53%,
- in 2023 - 5.92%,
- in 2024 - already 6.43%.
The increase in the generation of «green electricity» has become possible due to the consistent government policy aimed at improving the investment climate in the RES sector. The best international practices are being introduced, systematic support measures are being implemented, and the construction and operation of facilities is carried out at the expense of investors.
As of today, 154 RES facilities with an installed capacity of over 3 GW are operating in the country. Among them:
- 63 wind power plants (1,570.05 MW),
- 46 solar power plants (1,222.61 MW),
- 42 hydroelectric power plants (287.685 MW),
- 3 biogas plants (1.77 MW).
RES development remains one of the key priorities of the state policy in the field of sustainable energy supply and climate change control.
