KOREM JSC took part in the seminar of the USAID project «Energy of Central Asia»

On October 29, 2024, JSC «Kazakhstan electricity and power market operator» (hereinafter - KOREM), took part in an online seminar on the topic: «Competitive procurement for investments in the renewable energy sector in the Kyrgyz Republic».

The event was organized by the USAID project «Energy of Central Asia» in cooperation with the Energy Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Green Energy Fund under the Cabinet of Ministers and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Central Asian Energy Project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), supports Central Asian countries in the transition to clean energy and achieving renewable energy and energy efficiency goals.

The seminar was held in a hybrid format in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic), attended by representatives of energy companies, ministries and regulatory authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic. On the Kazakh side, KOREM JSC and Renewable Energy Accounting and Finance Support Center LLP took part.

The purpose of the workshop is to support the Kyrgyz Republic in finding solutions to accelerate the transition to a low-emission, climate-resilient and cost-effective economy, mainly by increasing the introduction of renewable energy sources. Representatives of the energy sector of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan were invited to the seminar to exchange experiences and discuss the rules of competitive procurement of renewable energy sources, as well as other issues related to the implementation of renewable energy projects.

The event was moderated by Bayan Abulkairova, Deputy Head of the USAID Energy of Central Asia project. She shared the program and purpose of the seminar, and briefly talked about the Project.

In turn, on behalf of KOREM JSC, Alexander Ten, Chief Manager of the Market Development Department, made a presentation on the topic: «Renewable energy auctions in Kazakhstan» via videoconference. Alexander Ten began his presentation with the history of renewable energy development in Kazakhstan, told about the conditions for submitting an application and the registration procedure in the trading system and the procedure for conducting auctions for the selection of renewable energy projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The seminar was held in an active discussion of the format of the Q&A session, where the participants of the event received explanatory answers to all their questions.
