The first auction of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2021
On November 8, 2021, auctions for the selection of RES projects started in Kazakhstan. This year auctions began with the selection of HPP projects with a total installed capacity of 20 MW. The auction was declared successful.
4 companies were allowed to participate in the auction, 6 price proposals were submitted by the participants during the trading session, the unit capacity of the projects ranged from 1,4 to 4,9 MW. The total volume of applications submitted was 11,8 MW. The maximum auction price during the auction for the selection of HPP projects in 2021 was 15.2 tg/kWh (without VAT).
During the trading session, the price range of applications received from auction participants ranged from 15,19 to 15 tg/kWh (without VAT).
According to the results of the auction, the following companies were identified as winners:
- Aksuhydro LLP (Kazakhstan) installed capacity of the project 4,9 MW, auction price 15 tg/kWh (without VAT). The project is planned to be located near Zhambyl district of Almaty region;
- Altyn-Hydro LLP (Kazakhstan) installed capacity of the project 2 MW, auction price 15,01 tg/kWh (without VAT). The project is planned to be located near the Enbekshikazakh district of Almaty region;
- Production cooperative "SPK "Yntymak" (Kazakhstan) installed capacity of the project 3,5 MW, auction price 15,05 tg/kWh (without VAT). The project is planned to be located near the Saryagash district of Turkestan region;
- Europe Solar LLP (Kazakhstan) installed capacity of the project 1,4 MW, auction price 15,19 tg/kWh (without VAT). The project is planned to be located near the Katon-Karagai district of the East Kazakhstan region.
During the auction, representatives of the Ministry of the energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ALE "KazEnergy", USAID, the international organization UNDP, NCE "Atameken". Observers noted that the auction was conducted in accordance with the approved regulatory legal acts and confirmed the transparency of the electronic trading system of the auction organizer – JSC "KOREM".
The next auction is scheduled for 09.11.2021 for the type of BioPP 10 MW.

According to the auction Schedule approved by the Order of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 251 dated 30.07.2021, auctions in the amount of 200 MW of installed capacity are planned for 2021, broken down by types of power plants:
- solar power plants – 20 MW;
- wind power plants – 50 MW;
- hydroelectric power plants – 120 MW;
- BioPP - 10 MW.
The organizer of the auction is JSC "KOREM".
