On May 19, 2023, a meeting with the World Bank team on the organization of regional electricity trade in Central Asia took place at the site of JSC «KOREM».

As part of the World Bank's research tour, a team of specialists from Central Asia arrived with a mission.

During the meeting, the representative of the World Bank spoke about the two-stage work to develop electricity trade between the countries of Central Asia.

1 stage: development of a master plan for the generation and transmission of electricity using modeling systems to create models for zones and conduct a study of cross-border infrastructure;

2 stage: through an international consulting company, the process of inventory of the border infrastructure has been launched, which will subsequently lead to long-term investment decisions and the development of the electricity trading market. 

In turn, the management of the Company told about the upcoming reform of the wholesale electricity market in Kazakhstan. The new market model will make it possible to organize auctions for the export of unused volumes of electricity to neighboring Central Asian states. Also, in the future, on a contractual basis, the Company announced its readiness to provide experts in solving issues of developing interregional electricity trade for Central Asian countries.

Following the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current issues.
