JSC «KOREM» received a delegation from the Federal Republic of Nepal within the framework of USAID projects
On April 20, 2023, a meeting was held at the site of JSC «KOREM» with a delegation from the Federal Republic of Nepal, representatives of the USAID Urja Nepal project, Central Asia Energy and Central Asia.
The delegation arrived in Kazakhstan as part of a study tour organized jointly with the projects of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) «Urja Nepal» and «Energy of Central Asia» (Power Central Asia) with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
22 representatives of Nepalese energy companies and USAID projects visited Kazakhstan to study and discuss Kazakhstan's experience in implementing an auction mechanism for the selection of renewable energy projects, which is aimed at selecting the most effective projects at the lowest prices.
The Nepalese delegation included: representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MEWRI), the Commission on Water Resources and Energy, the Investment Council Office, the Department of Electric Power Development, the Electric Power Regulatory Commission, the Center for the Promotion of Alternative Energy, the Nepal Electric Power Administration, as well as the USAID Urja Nepal project. The delegation was headed by Sandeep Dev, a representative of MEWRI.
JSC «KOREM» represented by A.V. Doronin, Managing Director for Strategy and Business Support – Member of the Management Board and A.A. Shagyrbaeva, Director of the Department of Market Development, acquainted the meeting participants with the procedure for conducting auctions for the selection of renewable energy projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan. They also presented a trading system by conducting simulated trading in real time.
The following issues were discussed during the meeting:
- features of the organization of auctions for the selection of RES;
- questions about the current state of the energy systems of the two countries;
- the role of the Government in the development of RES;
- RES development;
- measures to attract private sector investment in RES;
- barriers to the functioning of the RES.
In addition, the Kazakh side expressed its readiness to support the Federal Republic of Nepal in organizing and conducting auctions for the selection of RES projects, as well as in methodological and technical support of the project.
